Can you put kilts over walnut in order to paint it white .?
I have a walnut finish desk and I want to paint it white in order to match the bedroom suit.
You must first wash the desk down with a degreaser like Dawn. Then you need to rough up the surface with a fine sandpaper. This will enable the primer to adhere to the furniture. After you have completed those steps, re-sand after the primer has dried. Very carefully, smooth out the finish with a very fine sandpaper. Wipe the finished primed finish with a tack cloth to remove all dust particles. You can then paint the desk any color you choose. I also agree that the oil based primer is the best, but use what you are more comfortable with.
