Scottish Traditional Kilts
In the USA why do they play bagpipes and wear kilts at national ceremonies?
The USA is a melting pot of cultures yet when you see their national ceremonies for some reason they wear kilts and play bagpipes which are traditionally Scottish. Should they not have some tribal dancers from Africa, perhaps a Dragon from China or people dressed in traditional mexican dress. i think they are excluding many people in their history. Why do they just have kilts and bagpipes and stuff like that?
Right so it is just a new york thing, I guess that explains a lot.
Irish tartan is not even used in Irish ceremonies in Ireland so why do they use it in New York?
There is a tradition of it in some Law enforcement communities to honor the fallen, but it is not much more than that. Certainly not a national tradition. Hollywood loves it though.

Traditional Scottish Gifts
You might find plentiful of traditional Scottish souvenirs and gift ideas that spring to mind, but none will ever be as familiar as Scottish tartan. The clan was a sign of the area you came from and showed for other clans where you belonged. Two clans would not have the same design.
Most commonly tartan is thought of as a woollen blanket or a kilt. Anyone who has been to Scotland will know there are plenty of other items to be found covered in tartan designs. Some of these include hats and scarves, biscuit tins and notebooks and even teddy bears.
In the cities and towns around Scotland you will find plenty of Scottish crafts and souvenirs to bring home. Each city has its own unique character and a large choice of shopping areas.
